Bad gal RiRi will now be known as M.A.C gal RiRi. It was announced today that Rihanna has partnered with M.A.C Cosmetics to release a series of RiRi [Hearts] M.A.C makeup collaborations throughout 2013.

Rihanna tweeted her excitement this morning and included an Instagram shot of the collection: “That’s right baby, I’m a #MACgal now! Get into it, package designed and products created from scratch by yours truly! Thanks to the EPIC team at #MAC for giving me the opportunity to play and share my favorite shit with my fans and yours.”

The main focus of the collaboration is a deep red lipstick named “RiRi Woo,” based off of M.A.C’s best-selling “Ruby Woo” shade. The colour will be included in all four RiRi [Hearts] M.A.C collaborations and will launch on May 4 at a pop-up shop during Rihanna’s concert at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn, NY. The pop-up shops will continue to follow her Diamonds Tour concerts and the collection will also be sold online.

“When you think of makeup, the brand that pops into your mind—for something legit—is M.A.C,” the singer told WWD. “Whatever color you want, it’s like ‘Let’s go to M.A.C.’ I’ve been using M.A.C on tour for such a long time it was a natural fit for me. I have always loved makeup, and I always said that if I do it, I want to do it with a credible brand.”

This is the first time that M.A.C has ever done an ongoing collaboration with one of their partners. After the launch of the “RiRi Woo” lipstick a summer collection will follow, with fall and holiday collections also slated for 2013—both of which will be be sold in M.A.C stores. Customers and fans alike can expect lipsticks, blushes, eyeshadow palettes, false eyelashes, nail polishes and accessories to all be a part of the RiRi [Hearts] M.A.C collections.

Also noteworthy is the packaging itself. Designed by Rihanna, the collection features rose gold cases covered in pastel-pink detailing—it’s certainly a more feminine look than we’ve come to expect. But maybe that’s the key takeaway: right when we think we have Rihanna figured out, she shows us just how unpredictable she can be.
