Last October, I went to Naples and visited too many churches to name. I’m not the least bit religious but these places really are a sight to behold, not just because they are cavernous spaces with columns, stained glass, incredible mosaics, and marble statues, but because they all date back thousands of years. And they all have a very distinct scent: incense. That’s what this fragrance basically smells like, all warm and spicy, but it’s even better once it’s dried down on the skin. Part of the brand’s exclusive Velvet collection (only in Dolce & Gabbana boutiques), I tried it at a preview and couldn’t stop sniffing my wrist all day. —L.H.
Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner Micro Tip
Sometimes a product becomes iconic even though it’s not quite perfect—just because it’s so close to it. A quick search for “Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner” in the mega-popular Makeup Addiction subreddit reveals pages of rave reviews about the liner’s opacity, high shine finish and staying power, punctuated by complaints about the long felt tip, which can make ultra-precise lines a challenge. Rather than swapping out the 8-year-old liner’s tip (it is still Sephora’s best-selling eyeliner, after all), Stila is adding Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner Micro Tip ($29) to its lineup, featuring the same tried-and-true formula with a felt tip that’s the fraction of the size of the original.
As a devotee of the Stay All Day formula but not the ultra-long felt tip, I found myself drawing on the outline of my wing with another brand’s liquid liner, due to an easier-to-use short tip, and then filling it in with Stila’s unbeatable long-lasting formula. I did this two-step routine for years. Now, not only have I cut my eyeliner time in half, I no longer have to carry two liners around, and most importantly, when someone asks me what my holy grail liquid liner is, I can answer with a short and concise non-ramble. —S.M.
