As Milan Fashion Week comes to a close, the beauty buzz has zeroed in on two distinct trends: brows and bangs. While it started catching editors’ eyes earlier in the season, the repeat appearance of barely-there brows at Gucci, Versace, and Prada and heavy fringe on Milan models and Hollywood stars alike have ensured both a top spot in the growing roster of Fall trends. And best of all, brows and bangs are easy to achieve on your own: a few extra minutes during your next salon visit is all it takes!

How to get them? Who else inspired them? Read on! »

First up: the brows. It’s been reported that makeup artist Pat McGrath told the models in Milan not to bother dying their eyebrows back after the first bleaching at Gucci. These ethereal, bleached-out brows were also predominant at Versace and Prada, and a lighter, almost tawny shade of brow appeared at Dolce & Gabbana and Missoni. As statement making as it is, avoid the bleached look and opt for a tint that’s just a few shades lighter than your natural brow colour. Most salons will add an eyebrow tint to your regular dye-job service at no extra charge—not only is this an excellent way to make a stark change of hair colour look natural, it helps you avoid any at-home dye-in-the-eye errors.

Meanwhile, Jessica Biel, Reese Witherspoon, Rihanna, and Rachel McAdams started off 2012 with a bang—but the biggest celebrity endorsement of the style is certainly Rooney Mara. (Perhaps her rough Dragon Tattoo attire isn’t the only thing influencing Fall fashions?) In Milan, Versace and Marni were all about the bangs: Versace kept it Rooney-length, with forehead-grazing fringe that showed off the aforementioned bleached eyebrows. Marni, however, cut/clipped in a Rose Byrne-esque full bowl of bang. All together, this makes it a trend that’s easily adapted to your individual style. Avoid the temptation to make the cut at home—your stylist will be able to determine if you’re a Versace or a Marni, and will keep you looking fresh with complimentary bang trims all season long.
