Spring 2017 Beauty Trend Report: Make a Single Statement With Rainbow Bright Colour

Bright bursts of pigmented colour appeared everywhere, from lips to eyes to even earlobes. Applied in a variety of shapes, these markings broke from conventional makeup rules and were approached more like adornment.

At Victoria Beckham, free flowing shapes in blue and green were applied to lids, and similar ones appeared at Emilio Pucci and Salvatore Ferragamo, which makeup artist Thomas de Kluyver did in orange and red to reference the rainbow shoes in the collection. The pale yellow slashes at Haider Ackermann mimicked the shape of Birds of Paradise, and at Proenza Schouler, the yellow earlobes were a nod to photographer Jackie Nickerson.

At Manish Arora, Max Mara and Maison Margiela, additional colours were added, taking the statement to another level. But the key element that unified all these looks was that the rest of the face was pared back, keeping it resolutely runway and far from looking like a trend born on Instagram.
