What would life look like without multi-tasking products? Probably a lot of ladies running late while toting around makeup bags stuffed with every single item they need for touch-ups. Multi-functional makeup is a godsend to us all, especially when our days are scheduled and planned right down to the second. Thanks to a wider selection of two-in-one products available in many of our fave beauty brands, it’s no longer necessary to carry a lipstick, a blush, an eyeshadow palette and an eyeliner in our bags.

While we’re sure you’ve got a few multi-tasking products within arm’s reach, we asked our panel of beauty experts to share the one product they swear by. From tips on how to moonlight a lip pencil as an eye contour tool or tricks to make lip colour applicator work as a blush, our Beauty Panel members show us the key tools they use to help them save some time. And who knows? Maybe after flipping through, you’ll find your next go-to product to add to your routine.

Multi-using products…I rarely do it, because I have such a short attention span when it comes to picking out makeup for myself (think a 5 year old when it comes to shiny things). But really, when you’re in a pinch, (like forgetting your regular makeup stash while on vacation, or you only have 2 minutes to pull of a reasonably put together look) multi-use products are heaven sent. The usual lip/cheek combo is super popular and very handy. Many colours can be shared between these two facial features. However, I wanted to take it one step further and try out an eye/lip duo.

My product of choice: M.A.C Lip Pencil in “Cyber World.” This is a beautiful deep purple and I knew it had the potential to create a sultry (faux) shadow. After applying my Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion, I blended out a bit of M.A.C Eyeshadow in “Blanc Type” to create a fresh canvas. Then I applied the lip pencil in my crease and outer corner (the classic v shape for contouring the eyelid). I worked quickly to blend it out with a pencil brush (M.A.C #219). I kept it pretty isolated to the crease to create a little drama, and then blended it out for softness so it wasn’t too harsh. I also used this pencil to line my lips and feather out. I saved the inside of the lip for my Nars Satin Lip Pencil in Rikugien, which I also applied to the apples of my cheeks as blush (yay on doubling up the multi products!). You would be surprised what you have in your makeup bag that you can rediscover as a great product for another feature. Now…time to experiment!

Products used: M.A.C Pro Longwear Concealer in “NC20,” M.A.C Mineralize Skinfinish in “Medium,: M.A.C. Bronzing Powder in “Solar Riche,” Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in “Taupe,: Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion, M.A.C Eyeshadow in “Blanc Type,” M.A.C Lip Pencil in “Cyber World,” Nars Satin Lip Pencil in “Rikugien,” YSL Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils in “05 Burgandy”

In this fast-paced world of ever-changing trends, it’s such a godsend when you find something that’s both versatile and multi-purpose. While you may generally just think of highlighter to sculpt those impossibly high cheekbones, especially in this age of heavy Kardashian-style contouring and baking (and not the cookies and cupcakes kind of baking!), you can actually use it in so many ways!

My new fave is the Highlighter Powder from Joe Fresh x Shoppers Drug Mart collection. In this case, I actually used it as a base for my eye makeup, keeping it light and applying it from the lid all the way to brow bone to provide structure for the eyebrow. I swept it just above my blush, atop the apples of my cheeks for that iridescent shimmer that makes your face glow even though you’re lacking some serious shut-eye. Finally, I line the tip of my nose lightly and dabbed the centre of my lips with the Joe Fresh Highlighter Powder to achieve that overall youthful radiance!

Products used: Joe Fresh x Shoppers Drug Mart Highlighter Powder, Dr. Roebuck’s Pure followed by Joe Fresh Stick Foundation and Concealer, SST Primer and BB Cream mixed with Vichy Anti-Acne BB Cream, Joe Fresh Eyeliner and Hydrating Mascara, Nyx Incredible Waterproof Concealer in Green, Nars Blush, SST Cosmetics Powerplay Powerstay Collection Eyeshadow Stick in Pearl, Rimmel London Lip liner in 101 and Joe Fresh Mat Lipstick mixed with Arbonne Smoothed Over Lipstick in Willow.

There are so many amazing multi-use products to make your beauty routine simpler. Here I used Smashbox Cosmetics Blendable Lip and Cheek Colour for a bold lip and soft pink blush on my cheeks. I used one of the brightest shades from the collection to show how versatile it can be. After applying foundation dab a little onto your cheeks and blend out until you get the right intensity. Since this is a cream product it is best to apply it before using any powder. After applying it to your cheeks you can dust a translucent powder on top to set or just leave it for a dewy finish. For my lips I decided to go bold and dabbed on the product with my finger. For a more precise line I recommend applying it with a lip brush.

Products used: Beauty Blender, Rodial Airbrush Makeup, Rodial Airbrush Concealer, Laura Mercier Eyeshadow “Baroque,” Rodial Glamolash Mascara Skinny, Rodial Glamobrow “Ash Blonde,” Smashbox L.A. Lights Blendable Lip + Cheek Colour “Fairfax Fuchsia”

With spring break travel coming up, it may be hard for you to narrow down what to pack in your makeup bag. Searching for the perfect multitasker is key when trying to pack light, and I’ve got a couple products that save me space (and time) when I’m on vacation.

You may not think of a blush stick as anything more than that, but Nars The Multiple in “G-Spot” is a pretty deep rose shade with gold shimmer that works great as a blush, lipstick and even eyeshadow. You read that right, I used it as an eyeshadow and it just gives my eyes a pop of colour.

Next, I grab Nars The Multiple in “Copacabana,” a shimmery pearl shade that can be used to really define those cheekbones. And yes, I still use it to highlight all the high points of my face: cheekbones, bridge of the nose, cupid’s bow. But I also use it under my brow, as a lid shade or even on the centre of my lips to make them look fuller.

There you have it, two portable cream blush and highlight sticks that can be used to complete your look in a few simple swipes.
