Awards season officially kicked off last week with the People’s Choice Awards but last night the season went into high gear with the 2015 Golden Globes. Often referred to as the Oscars-Lite (okay, maybe no one actually says that), we’re actually always partial to the Globes because they offer us the first peek into the beauty trends that we’ll be seeing on the red carpet this year.

The biggest trend we spotted last night? Matching! Whether it was in the form of red lips that perfectly matched a red dress, a la Viola Davis, Heidi Klum and Lena Dunham, or a monochromatic head-to-toe look, like the one on GirlsZosia Mamet, it seems that the best way to choose your makeup these days is by looking down at your outfit.

When it came to hair, we have to say we were pleasantly surprised. Between Lupita Nyong’o‘s grown-out tresses to Jessica Chastain and Reese Witherspoon giving us perfect side-swept ‘dos, and Emily Blunt‘s pretty halo braid updo, there was some great hair porn happening at the 2015 Golden Globes.

Some stars went soft with their makeup, like our February cover girl Anna Kendrick, who walked (maybe floated?) down the red carpet looking angelically dewy, as well as Sienna Miller who accentuated her always-perfect beachy waves with bronzed skin and a subtle bronze smoky eye. And then there was Jennifer Lopez, who uh, did the opposite of that. Big hair, chunky highlights, lots of gloss and maybe all the eye shadow in the world probably wouldn’t have been a great look for anyone else but somehow, we’re into it on J.Lo (so sue us).
