Top Fall 2016 Trends: 114 runway and street style photos of fashion month’s 10 biggest moments
Invention and reinvention are the motherships of fashion, and this season all eyes are on Captain Demna Gvasalia, the designer behind buzzy label Vetements who just debuted his first collection for Balenciaga (he’s the iconic house’s new artistic director). Menswear-inspired lady looks were given a throwback spin, thanks to the padded hips and curve shouldered jackets. It seems designers, like Gvasalia, aren’t shrugging off shoulders when it comes to the top Fall 2016 trends. A continuation from spring, shoulder-baring looks have morphed into off-the-shoulder puffer coats (spotted at Balenciaga, among other runways).
The street continues to score points too, thanks to the bounty of luxe track pants, hoodies, ironic slogan tees and deconstructed/distorted staples like Vetements’ chopped, uneven blazers. Quirky maximalism is also a huge trend for Fall fashion 2016. It seems Gucci’s creative director Alessandro Michele has sparked a trend within the industry too; many collections this season included vintage-inspired designs, clashing patterns and beautiful sequins, velvet and fringe. The MO? More is definitely more. Outerwear divides into many camps this season, but the latest trench coats and furs (both faux and fo’ real) have street style star splashed all over them. From Celine’s cornflower blue belted trench to Fendi’s floral accented fuzz (think Margot Tenenbaum 2.0), coats are the gateway to cool girldom—choose wisely.
Metallics are the new black, wear them day or night. Grab a little inspo from Lanvin, Opening Ceremony and Marc Jacobs—all three labels gave a turbo boost to silver foil this season. Accessories are out-of-this-world too, as the new statement earrings from Ellery and Stella McCartney (worn either as pairs or singles) are like works of modern art for lobes—hang and admire.
