About Janna
I was born and raised in Yorkton, SK, and moved to Saskatoon for university. After graduating with a B.A. majoring in English I moved out to Vancouver for the summer but came back to persue more opportunities here. Now I'm a 22-year-old writer and freelance editor living in downtown Saskatoon and love what I do. My other loves: friends, family, dancing, travelling, reading up on anything from fashion and business to environmental issues and trying hard to become a decent cook (although cooking and I have a real love-hate relationship.)
Who is your style icon and why?
I admire a lot of different people but the person who always amazes me, show after show, is Roberto Cavalli. The attitude that's reflected in his collections represents, to me, the idea of a modern woman. He combines sexy designs with bold, fun prints to create the powerful, "I should be noticed" image. Another person I look up to is Hilary Alexander of The Daily Telegraph, she always has a great opinion on each show and I would like to be more like her one day.
What’s your favourite item in your closet?
If I had to pick just one, it would probably be the Chip & Pepper jeans I picked up in Seattle. They are still my favorite go-to item. If you find that one pair that fits perfectly, you don't want to let them go.
What was your favourite childhood outfit?
I was always wearing neon colours when I was little, or the dresses that my mom made for my sister and I for Christmas each year, but my favorite outfit would have to be one my aunt brought back from Jamaica when I was about seven: a tie-dyed dress with matching tie-dyed socks and hair bow.
What’s your worst outfit ever?
I don't know if I want to admit this, but, in my second year of high school I wore pleather-ish black pants and a purple Hello Kitty T-shirt. That's all I have to say about that.
Name a current celeb whose style you admire and tell us why.
Rachel McAdams. She wears anything really well and always seems to put her own twist on whatever style or trend she's into. She gives off that cool and comfortable vibe in whatever she's wearing, which is important and puts her into that "trendsetter" category easily.
What’s a trend you hate?
I'm not a huge fan of floral prints, or the floor-length hippie dresses, but, to each her own. And popped-collared polo shirts on guys: it's not trendy anymore and I wish they would stop doing it.
Why do you love the shopping/fashion scene in your town?
The “Saskatoon shopping scene” was kind of an oxymoron until a couple of years ago, but now it's pretty diverse and has a lot to offer—from local and Canadian labels to hard-to-find brands. Each store has its own something different, and Saskatoon people can be very stylish and unique because of it. For now today's spots are just our little secret, but I'm willing to share!
