In a summer awash with festivals, the Canadian Film Centre's annual Worldwide Short Film Festival in Toronto is the place to be for cinephiles, awty music video lovers and this year, animé fans. With 268 films from 13 countries, this year’s hot tickets include the Japanese Animation Spotlight, including the Canadian premieres of the Genius Party and Genius Party Beyond collections from animation powerhouse Studio4°C. Can’t get in? Never fear—there are countless other cool programs to choose from, including Midnight Mania: Freaky & Creepy, Accidentally Funny: Order is Restored, archival instructional films taken out of context, and a film school spotlight featuring Argentina’s Universidad del Cine.
Shown: Limit Cycle makes its Canadian debut at Genius Party, a spotlight on Japanese animé.
