For all you Wizard of Oz Mega Fans, September 4, 2014 is a date you are going to want to mark in your calendars. The film’s leading ladies will be transformed high-fashion-style for the film’s 75th Anniversary. Inspired by Dorothy, Glinda the Good Witch and the Wicked Witch of the West (we know, we can hardly contain ourselves) Warner Bros. Consumer Products and The Wizard of Oz have teamed with US-based Tonner Doll Collection, plus various designers to create one-of-a-kind 22-inch couture dolls. If you’ve ever thought a green, warty witch couldn’t be glamorous, you’d better think again.

The Wizard of Oz has influenced fashion for decades, from Louis Vuitton’s Follow the Yellow Brick Road-esque dress to Christopher Kane’s rainbow dress of Spring ’14 to Kate Spade gingham pants, the list is endless. But never before have we seen something like this- a heap of our favorite designers re-imagining one of the most popular films of all time! The fashion and costume designers modernizing the looks of the celebrated characters include Trina Turk, Donna Karan, BCBG Max Azria, Chris Benz, Jenny Packham, Marc Jacobs, Betsey Johnson, Lyn Paolo, and Anna Sui– and if the sketches are any indication, this doll collection just may be as covetable as Dorothy’s ruby red slippers themselves. Using elements from the movie, such as Dorothy’s gingham pinafore and the infamous (however, essential) tornado, the designers combined some of today’s greatest styles, including a peplum jumpsuit and eclecticism, into the sketches.

For the die-hard Dorothy fans, Benz and Turk re-envisioned her style with a modern-day twist. Using blue gingham and an Over the Rainbow T, each of them created designs that are totally Dorothy-chic. And although she makes us cringe in the film, the Wicked Witch’s costume has to be one of our faves. Designers like Packham created a contemporary, and quite beautiful design for the broom-riding villain. Of course Glinda’s gown is striking too, but with Paolo paying homage to the Met Ball, how could it not be?

Debuting during New York Fashion Week at The Fashion Institute of Technology on September 4 (we HAVE to mention it again), these couture dolls will later be auctioned on eBay, with benefits going to the international non-profit organization Habitat for Humanity. The auction will run until September 14, with all proceeds going to the “There’s No Place Like Home” Campaign. So while your drooling over the designs, you might as well bid for a good cause!
