The thought of getting out of bed for a 7am spin class makes most of us want to dive back under the covers, especially when working out involves wearing a nasty old gym shirt. Enter Michi, a hot new luxury active line that will have you out of bed and feeling the burn before you can say “calisthenics.”

The line is the brainchild of Toronto-based Michelle Watson, an athlete-come-designer who has worked for Donna Karan, Kate Spade and Ralph Lauren in New York. Putting her wares to the test with intense sessions of dance, martial arts, yoga and running, Watson promises that her pieces are not only stylish, but comfortable, flattering and easy to move in too. Made primarily of a Swiss four-way stretch nylon Lycra, tank tops, bra tops, shorts and leggings, all come in classic black or grey.

“I felt like most active brands lacked femininity and originality,” says the designer. “I want to create an active lifestyle brand that stylishly crosses over as everyday clothing.” Featuring sexy pelvic cutouts worthy of a Mark Fast show, Michi’s black nylon Lycra leggings look as good strutting down the sidewalk as they do pumping iron.

The best part? “My fabrics make you look and feel ten pounds slimmer.” How’s that for motivation?
