Ford celebrates the Mustang’s 50th anniversary with 5 smokin’ hot T-shirt collabs

With fashion month kicking off for another season, covetable clothes are top of mind (and making their way into suitcases ready to jet from New York to Paris). Of all the sartorial must-haves, the t-shirt is a fashion editor’s BFF. Well timed then, that Ford has zoomed into the fashionsphere with its limited edition designer t-shirt collection, in celebration of the Mustang’s 50th anniversary. (Sure, she’s had a little bit of work done but Sally still looks smokin’ hot!) Five designers–Anna Sui, Rogan Gregory and Scott Mackinlay-Hahn of Rogan, Pamela Love, Paula Cademartori and Tomaso Anfossi and Francesco Ferrari of Cote–worked with the iconic car company to create three t-shirts each, resulting in a unique 15-piece collection for women and men. New York-based jewellery designer Pamela Love highlighted the horse as a symbol of power, strength and freedom; while Detroit native Anna Sui illustrated a rock ‘n’ roll fantasy–think airbrushing and ‘70s-inspired rock posters. Rogan focused on the car’s design evolution. “We looked back at the Mustang launch in 1964 and how the designers across the decades have been able to maintain the identity,” says Scott Mackinlay-Hahn, who was recently in Toronto for the launch event. Tire tracks and curves provided inspiration, as did the Lascaux cave in France, famous for its Paleolithic animal paintings. Sold exclusively at Gilt.com through October for $39 a pop, these tricked-out organic cotton tees are guaranteed to fuel up your fall wardrobe. Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines.
