The 7 Most Memorable Moments from New York Fashion Week Spring 2017

Fashion shows are about the fashion. But seeing a collection come down the runway is a full body experience (almost like seeing a live concert). While music is key, the surrounding elements play a part in making you love or hate what you see. The energy, the set, and the music communicate the designer’s vision and tell the story of the season. New York Fashion Week Spring 2017 had no shortage of buzz and excitement. We’ve rounded up the 7 best moments of the week here.

Best overall experience
Who doesn’t like a presentation with flowers, sweets, coffee and carbs for the taking? Club Monaco upped their game by taking Grand Central Terminal back to the 1940’s. Models stood on raised platforms in outfits that were immediately available to buy after the presentation, all while show-goers made their rounds enjoying the clothes and sweet treats in the surrounding space.

Best show
Closing the week with a bang is a Marc Jacobs hallmark. His grand show space, the OTT fashion and beauty and a star-studded crowd make his show one of the most anticipated of the week. The color and drama of the collection were a feast for the eyes and a social media success.

Best new collection
Newcomer Sander Lak only has one previous collection at Sies Marjan under his belt, but we’re already craving more from this talented designer. Silky separates and dresses in bright, cheerful hues are all the evidence we need to know he’s got a long career ahead.

Best after party
The minute you walked into the venue, the Alexander Wang party was already in full swing. Booming music, dim lights and an A-list front row made this show the place to be. Once the runway portion ended, the crowd charged through a vanishing barrier revealing an epic after party. Guests were invited to graffiti cars, peruse a 7-11 set up, drink Slurpees and beer from paper bags and order the ultimate late night food, McDonalds. Performances from CL, Travis Scott and Desiigner combined with all of the other elements, created a one-stop shop for the best night ever.

Best buy-now-wear-now
Despite the heat being out of control the night of the show, Tommy Hilfiger’s carnival made the September evening feel like an extension of a summer holiday. While the collection showcased a buy-now-wear-now collaboration with model of the moment and social media superstar Gigi Hadid, the pieces had us (and the 2,000 fans that were granted access to the event), ready to shop for fall. Tommy touched on all of his favourite fashion personalities including the sporty girl, the festival traveler and the classic heritage lover.

Best accessories
Jaws dropped watching the incredibly detailed collection come down the runway at Rodarte. Ruffles and lace floated by with stunning accessories to complete the looks. Mismatched earrings, dripping headpieces and flower-strewn locks stole the show.

Best music
Michael Kors, a true entertainer, knows there’s nothing better than live music. His collection came down the runway with Canadian artist Rufus Wainwright singing to the crowd. The bright prints and crisp collection were a perfect march for Wainwright’s tunes.
