Welcome to Model Minute–a quick chat with an up-and-coming model we love.

Name: Kate Somers

Agency: Ford Models

Where you’ve seen her: Kate has walked the runways for top designers like Lanvin, Louis Vuitton, Alexander McQueen and Sonia Rykiel. She has appeared in Teen Vogue and on the cover of Dazed & Confused and in campaigns for Lord & Taylor and Lacoste.

What magazine would you love to be on the cover of?

It would be an amazing opportunity to be on the cover of Italian Vogue, but I also have to add a second choice: it would be a dream of mine to be featured on the front of Teen Vogue, as I still love the magazine!

Do you have any hidden talents?

I love creative writing, but one thing people may not know about me is that I used to be a competitive downhill ski racer.

What’s the last concert you attended?

I attended a Police concert last July.

What was it like the first time you stepped on a runway?

My first time stepping on a runway was great! Backstage, the other girls taught me how to walk–I’d never walked in heels before!–and having my hair and makeup done was incredibly surreal. The whole experience felt simultaneously bizarre and exciting.

What is the craziest thing you’ve seen backstage at a fashion show?

There are so many crazy things that go on backstage: First, it’s odd to see the majority of the models all done up with fancy hairdos and outlandish makeup, while at the same time, studying from their high school science texts. It’s always a little crazy when last-minute wardrobe malfunctions occur–I’ve had heels break

moments before stepping onto the runway. Lastly, when celebrities come backstage after the show to give their support, I’m always a little bit caught off guard. I had to do a double take when Fergie came backstage after the Marc by Marc collection two seasons ago.
