Met Gala 2016 Red Carpet By the Numbers

Yes, we actually sat down and counted the number of nude lips on the carpet.

Nude lips, sequins and cut-outs proved to be the ultimate Met Gala starter pack at last night’s opening of the Costume Institute’s Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology exhibition. In total, we tallied up whopping 101 guests donning nude lips (or MLBBs), and a total of 57 sequinned/jewel encrusted ensembles.

On the hair front, sleek strands dominated, as well as high ponies (case in point: the adorable Gigi Hadid), and a slew of chic braids, with Miranda Kerr and Alicia Vikander perfecting the style, both in stunning Vuitton outfits. Speaking of the storied French maison, Nicolas Ghesquiere’s gang was out in full force (and in combat boots) which was a pleasant surprise and refreshing contrast to the usual Balmain and Tom Ford armies that dominate the red carpet scene.
