I Am an Immigrant: Powerful Video Unites Fashion’s Most Recognizable Faces

The fashion world is stepping up.

NYFW proved that fashion isn’t shying away from politics. But the most political statement of all has perhaps happened off the runway.

81 of the biggest names in fashion—including Belgian-American designer Diane Von Furstenberg, Welsh-American creative director (and long time Vogue staffer) Grace Coddington and British-American model Jourdan Dunn (who happens to be FASHION’s next cover star)—came together to declare their immigrant status, and to stand in solidarity with those affected by President Trump’s controversial refugee ban.

“I think fashion is actually not doing enough and not making enough statements,” Polish model Anja Rubik told W Magazine. “Fashion has the power to actually create trends—not just trends like, ‘What’s in: blue or red?’ but social statements and social trends. So the fashion world should be even more engaged.”
