Hygge: The Danish Secret to Staying Cozy This Winter

Well, it finally happened. We got the dump of snow that everyone secretly hoped would never happen. The kind that grounds planes, snarls traffic and sends us scurrying inside to slurp steaming bowls of soup.

But why avoid the inevitable? We know the cold, snow and slush are coming, so why not make the most of the season? When I read about hygge (pronounced HOO-gah), the Danish term for cozy, over the Christmas break, I knew I’d be a quick convert. How can you not want to light a fire (or a few candles), get comfortable under a cashmere blanket and pull on your favourite pair of sweats? It’s all about the art of living well in the wintertime.

In honour of the Danish tradition, pour yourself a warm cup of cocoa and stock up on a few new essentials like woolen socks and crisp pajamas. It might be a long shot, but winter may just become your new favourite season.
