We’re seeing a lot of metallics recently, but it’s hard to think of ways to incorporate the trend during the day without feeling over the top. The way I wear metallics on a day-to-day basis is by wearing these metallic flats from Asos. They’re stunning and can easily upgrade any outfit. The sparkles on the back also make it fun and not feel like your typical ballet flats.

The blazer is one of my go-to pieces – I possess it in every possible colour and shape. This silver metallic one is a favourite to wear for all occasions. During the day, I love to wear it with a little slip dress and a pair of Adidas Stan Smith sneakers. I always manage to dress down a nighttime piece with a pair of sneakers, because it makes the look more comfortable and fun to wear!

Since metallics are such an attention grabber, I would tone it down with black, white or other neutral shades and with the ultimate casual staple, a pair of sneakers. I think the key in making it more day-appropriate is keeping it modern, simplified and comfortable.

I love that we’re currently in a fashion climate where anything goes; vintage, velvet, minimalist, maximalist – and metallics are no different. No longer relegated to eveningwear, it’s totally acceptable (and encouraged, in my opinion!) to sport the sparkly stuff during the day.
My favourite way to wear metallics for day is pairing it down with some distressed denim and a graphic tee so it doesn’t feel too fancy. I’m also a big fan of mixing and matching metallics – this jacket has a subtle sheen and picks up the silver in my brogues. I think if you’re going to wear metallics, you might as well have some fun with it!

There are many design elements that I’ve studied that can be applied to various aspects of styling clothing. My favourite two that I play with the most are uniformity and contrast as they are great tactics to creating dynamic outfits.
In this case, I’ve mixed and matched two awesome suits, a gold business suit and a rose tracksuit, to create contrast. By pairing a metallic piece with a sweatshirt, you tone down the fancy and athletic elements of both pieces and create a casual outfit that can take you from day to night.
