Spring 2017 Trend Report: How to Wear Candy Colours

Nothing ushers in spring like a rainbow of colour splashed across your closet. Lucky for us, designers sweetened up their spring 2017 ready-to-wear collections with hits of bright candy colours.

Pink reigns supreme, and everything from Barbie pink (yes, it’s a cool-girl staple now) to bubblegum to cotton candy are trending now. Think of this hue as power dressing 2.0—it makes a strong statement, day or night. Just make sure to ground these super saturated looks with neutral (black, white, camel) accessories.

Other colours that pack a punch this season include yellow, orange, green and blue. The runways are dotted with these playful shades that look like they’ve been plucked straight out of a bag of Skittles. Haider Ackermann’s acid yellow plunge-front gown adds a juicy twist to eveningwear, while Jeremy Scott’s glossy belted trench resembles red licorice. Over in Milan, Emilio Pucci’s spring line-up includes a colourful bodysuit that mirrors old school Licorice Allsorts (a.k.a. the candy your Granny always had out when you came to visit). In New York, Marc Jacobs proves he’s the ultimate candy man this spring, showing sweet-meets-street striped hoodies and diaphanous babydoll dresses tricked-out with sequinned Licorice Allsorts.
