Fashion news: The Alber-to-replace-Lagerfeld rumour pops up again, a Karl salad, Peter Nygård drops suit against the CBC and more

Since street style photog Tommy Ton tweeted “I received some news tonight that is going to SHAKE the fashion world in the next two days. CRAZY!!!!” during Paris Fashion week, we have been going crazy awaiting the news. Word on the street is that Karl Lagerfeld‘s turn at Chanel is coming to an end, and that he will be passing the baton to Lanvin designer Alber Elbaz. We’ve heard this before, so take this rumour with a big grain of salt. [Grazia AU]

In other Lagerfeld news, he will have an Alaskan king crab salad named after him at Paris’ La Giola restaurant. [WWD]

Madonna‘s new fashion brand status opens up the world of collaboration (and world domination at this point). After signing a deal last week that will enable the material girl’s brand, MG Icon, to have hands in multiple existing brands as well as to start new ones, news comes today of the first partnership between Madonna and Dolce & Gabbana–sunglasses.   [The Cut]

Remember back in January when Peter Nygård filed suit against the CBC, accusing the broadcaster of filming the opening of Nygård’s flagship store in NY without permission? Well consider the case dropped; on March 5th a judge offered a week to both sides to explain the video’s legal significance. Either Nygård couldn’t muster up the legal relevance, or felt reassured after the CBC told Nygård that they’d only air material that fell under “fair use” guidelines, because two days later the designer submitted a notice of voluntary dismissal. Kate Moss and William Tempest teamed up for the Sport Relief cause, a British campaign to raise awareness for Malaria. Tempest created a dress made of recycled mosquito nets for the supermodel to don, that is up for auction too at sportrelief.com. [Vogue UK]

The business world of fashion is abuzz today with the latest wheelings and dealings, including Tommy Hilfiger being bought by Phillips van Heusen corporation, French Connection has announced that they are selling their Nicole Farhi brand and Swiss luxury group Richemont will acquire a majority stake in Net-a-Porter.
