Call it the Chanel invasion of St. Tropez. Hundreds of models, fashion editors and Chanel groupies have descended on this chic port town for the unveiling of the Chanel Cruise collection.

Last night guests battled it out in a petanque tournament [Ed: basically lawn bowling played on gravel] in the main square, Place des Lice, that followed a screening of a short film by Karl Lagerfeld.

The film provides the inspiration for the cruise collection and the story is verité all the way: An older, monied gent chases pretty Chanel-clad young women through the nightclubs of St. Tropez, arriving at a villa at sunrise. There, the whole group is passed out in a chic living room when in walks Karl Lagerfeld, wondering why everyone is sleeping when he has been invited for lunch? As anyone who has been to St. Tropez knows, lunch doesn’t happen here till 4 p.m.

The film was followed by the petanque tournie and I am pleased to report that FASHION made it to the finals! A champagne-fuelled face-off took place with Diane Kruger. Alas, I overshot and shall return home a defeated woman.
