6 Of The Best Soundtracks From The Spring 2017 Shows

From out there choices like Gucci’s Florence Welch and William Blake mashup to Rufus Wainwright’s live runway serenade at Michael Kors, brands invest a lot of time and energy coming up with a soundtrack that not only vibes with the collection and speaks to their message for the season but also adds to the whole performance aspect of the show. If you’ve got the whole front row tapping their stiletto’ed toes or humming the soundtrack as they’re filing out of the venue, you know you’ve hit on a memorable winner.

Other designers, like Canadian Sid Neigum, take a different approach, working to mix music as an auditory moodboard. Patti Smith’s voice (one of model muse Kirsten Owen’s favourite artists) made the cut, as did the songs they were listening to while shooting the lookbook. He compressed the compilation down to a tight 12 minutes to play during the runway show.

Here are our 6 favourite scores from the spring shows.

At Michael Kors, Rufus Wainright gave a live performance of Zing Went The Strings of My Heart, Come Rain Or Come Shine/Almost Like Being in Love and Get Happy.

Dolce & Gabbana played to the tropical theme with a remix of Tarantella, a traditional Neapolitan song.

Chanel was feeling disco this season with COH’s I Feel Summer and remixes of Donna Summer’s I Feel Love.

At Burberry, a 21-piece orchestra accompanied by pianist Rosey Chan and vocalists, performed Reliquary a score written by British composer Ilan Eshkeri, exclusively for the show.

Gucci‘s haunting soundtrack featured Florence Welch reading poems by William Blake.

Sid Neigum‘s runway playlist included Patti Smith’s voice and the songs that he listened to while shooting his spring lookbook.
