New York Fashion Week: Kanye, strippers and everything else that went down this weekend
Catching a few ZZZs or cracking into a new book are two things that will never happen during NYFW, especially over the weekend. The beyond packed schedule from sun up to (long after) sun down guarantees plenty of action on and off the runway. From the group of chanting monks who opened Prabal Gurung’s show to ’90s heartthrob Andrew Shue (Billy from Melrose, yo) appearing at Banana Republic’s preview, our fashion weekend in the Big Apple did not disappoint. Here’s your Monday cheat sheet to the five coolest NYFW moments over the last 72 hours. T.G.I.M.
Alexander Wang’s star-studded show
It couples (Kylie Jenner + Tyga; Bella Hadid + The Weeknd) and hit makers (Kanye West, Nicki Minaj) lined the front row at Alexander Wang’s 10th anniversary show. Sure the clothes were dope—think chain strap bra tops and boiler suits—but the after party was off the chain (stripper poles included). Fake $10 bills emblazoned with Wang’s likeness seemed to be scattered everywhere for a total BBHMM vibe.
Getting inked at Chanel
Sunday morning began with a visit to Chanel’s pop-up space in the Meatpacking District for the launch of its new Boy.Friend timepiece. The drool-worthy designs had us at hello (we’ll take the diamond version with the luxe red croc strap s’il vous plait) but the temporary tattoo machine had a more affordable version. Just press the button et voilà! Your very own Boy.Friend…for a few days anyway until the magic literally wears off.
The new bag for cool girls about town
Victoria Beckham gives good show. From the gorge Beckham brood perched front row (this season David and Brooklyn represented) to spring’s surprising line-up of prints ranging from gingham to florals to surfers, VB knows how to cause an Insta frenzy. The classic tan half-moon shoulder bag wins for best in show.
Contouring makes a comeback
First there was Kim K, now there’s Hood by Air with today’s lesson in contouring. The duo sent models down the runway with stripes of dark foundation and white highlighter on their faces. The strong beauty statement brought many words to mind including the obvious: Blend.
Michael Kors throws a bash with the Midas Touch
If you weren’t sipping Moët at the penthouse lounge at the top of The Standard on Sunday night then you aren’t part of Michael Kor’s inner circle. The man of the hour hosted an epic party with beautiful people like model Constance Jablonski and actress Camilla Belle, iconic photogs (Mario Testino) and a swirl of socialites and fashion peeps, to launch his new Gold Fragrance collection. Even Duran Duran came out to play—literally. Yup, it was classic MK: go big or go home.
