Gifts for mom: 8 unique ways to spend Mother’s Day together
Ah, mom. Is there anyone else in your life who deserves a full day of wonderful things? With Mother’s Day on the horizon (May 12, mark it in your calendars!) now is the time to plan how you’ll spend that special Sunday. This year, go beyond the traditional Mother’s Day brunch or mani/pedi appointment. We’ve come up with eight unique ways to spend the day—or the entire weekend—together with your mom.
If your mother is a gardener, spend Mother’s Day weekend outside and, as an added bonus, have her teach you some of her green thumb-making skills. Of course, you’ll need flowers and plants to practice on, which is why we suggest taking a trip together to the Toronto Flower Market. Another way to get your hands dirty (in the best way possible) is to take your mother to at a clay class at the Gardiner Museum. (Moms who came of age in the ’70s will especially appreciate the return to the pottery wheel!)
For a more relaxing Mother’s Day weekend, go with a traditional option and treat mom to an afternoon at the spa. We suggest two celebrity-approved treatments at the newly-opened Spa at Equinox Bay St that both of you are sure to enjoy. For even more relaxation, why not check out a local winery. Canada is pretty lucky to have excellent vineyards from Nova Scotia to British Columbia and everywhere in between. Or treat your mom to a girls’ night out downtown: Toronto’s One King West Hotel & Residence is giving away a stay at their hotel for Mother’s Day. Enter here for your chance to win.
Finally, if your mom is a fan of baking, make her Mother’s Day by enrolling her in a class at the Bonnie Gordon College. From artisanal cupcake decoration to learning how to make French macarons, both of you will benefit from the results. Whatever you end up doing on Mother’s Day, as long as you’re doing it together you’re bound to have an excellent time. (And check out our Mother’s Day gift ideas for further inspiration.)
