Vancouver Art Gallery Summer Gala 2017: 23 Photos From the Claude Monet Secret Garden Party

Naturally, there were tons of flowers.

At its annual summer gala fundraiser last Friday evening (June 16), the Vancouver Art Gallery had yet to hang most of the 38 paintings for its upcoming exhibition, Claude Monet’s Secret Garden. However, it didn’t seem to matter too much, with so many grand floral displays and well-dressed attendees to beguile the eye.

The proverbial garden path included a canopy of roses leading into the gallery, bouquets draped across the heads of barefoot models at the exhibit entrance and a “flowerfall” cascading over the centre stage in the Georgia Street Plaza tent, where dinner commenced.

Unsurprisingly, many guests dressed directly to the theme. Floral prints, embroideries and headpieces abounded, but who could have expected twinning Dolce & Gabbana ice cream dresses? The crowd of more than 400 included Aritzia CEO Brian Hill and Cause We Care Foundation founder Andrea Thomas-Hill; Goh Ballet director Chan Hon Goh; Capture Photography Festival executive director Kim Spencer-Nairn; and, artists Douglas Coupland, Paul Wong, Howie Tsu and Landon MacKenzie.
