Selena Gomez and The Weeknd Had a Lowkey Romantic Date in Toronto
What happens when a Toronto “Starboy” brings his rumoured (LOL-ing that we’re still saying this) songstress girlfriend to his hometown? He keeps things lowkey and casual…or at least as lowkey and casual a Grammy award-winning singer and Instagram’s most-followed celebrity can be.
The Weeknd (real name Abel Tesfaye) and Selena Gomez were spotted in the 6ix this week, doing regular things couples do: movies, lunch dates and shopping. The pair, who sparked romance rumours when they were first spotted kissing back in January, began their Toronto activities Wednesday evening, renting out a theatre at Cineplex’s Yonge-Dundas location, to see the 9:50 p.m. show of “Get Out.” (Side note: the 27-year-old “I Feel It Coming” crooner’s H&M ads are on full display across the street from the cinema. How meta.) According to etalk, an assistant went to the theatre earlier in the day to buy out a VIP room, without saying who it was for. The cost? A cool $1,500 before tax (like we said, casual).
Abelena were taken to the theatre through the service elevator, and indulged in a variety of snacks and treats: two gin and tonics, two regular popcorns, a Twix, Maltesers, Twizzlers, two packs of Sour Patch Kids and three regular-sized Diet Cokes, reports etalk. The 24-year-old “Hands to Myself” singer supposedly returned to the concessions stand to order some more — but was turned away because it was closed. Following the flick, however, the pair went out to dinner (you know, so no one gets hangry).
Their romantic adventures in Toronto didn’t end there. The next day, Abel took Selena to the Thompson diner (again, casual!!) for some lunch, where etalk reports The Weeknd ordered chicken and waffles, while Gomez ate egg whites, shaved ham, potatoes and white toast.
Later on in the day, the duo were spotted in Yorkville, shopping at Holt Renfrew’s men’s boutique and Hermès.
According to one Twitter user, they were also spotted in the J.Crew store on Bloor Street.
And while neither Selena nor Abel have posted anything on social media regarding their Toronto getaway, Gomez did share a cozy snap of her and her man in the back of a car on Instastories.
