Trust a Montrealer to breeze into the 6 and throw the chicest after-party like je ne sais quoi. Mommy director Xavier Dolan showed Toronto how it’s done when he feted his latest film Tuesday night at King West hotspot Valdez. Fresh from winning the Cannes Jury Prize in May, the 25-year-old arrived fashionably late from his sold-out TIFF premiere at the Princess of Wales Theatre. Dolan held court en plein air on the spacious rooftop patio, which was illuminated by a super moon and the super handsome portrait of the director featured on the cover of the Fall 2014 issue of Men’s FASHION (Dolan confessed that he loves the shot).

The two-story restaurant was abuzz until 4am with the best-looking guest list we’ve seen in a long time, including a who’s who of Canada’s top fashion industry insiders. Mommy star Suzanne Clément, Men’s FASHION editor-in-chief David Livingstone, FASHION Magazine’s editor-in-chief Bernadette Morra and senior vice-president Lil Lozinski mingled with a crowd that included Vawk creative director Sunny Fong, model Stacey McKenzie, photographer Gabor Jurina, Greta Constantine’s Kirk Pickersgill and Stephen Wong and Holt Renfrew’s Kym de la Roche.

Carrying It-bags and clad in everything from crop tops to jumpsuits, the fashionable guests nibbled on tasty Latin American street food designed especially for the event by celebrity chef Steve Gonzalez, formerly of Top Chef Canada. Gourmet pollitos, guacamole and empanadas that we can’t stop raving about were served alongside custom cocktails like the Mommy Margarita, which may have played a part in the impromptu dance party. So which VIP was last to leave the scene? Mum’s the word.
