Barbie is looking for a big name to fill her tiny shoes, and fast.
Funny-girl Amy Schumer was slated to breathe life into the blonde, plastic bombshell, but (to our disappointment) dropped out in March due to scheduling conflicts. Now, Sony needs an A-list actress to take her place, and she need to be available ASAP. Mattel is already manufacturing movie merch, which means Sony has to meet the film’s scheduled June 29, 2018 release date. YIKES.
But don’t worry! Your tiniest childhood playmate is making it to the big screen—and *hopefully* with a big name. Barbie producer Amy Pascal revealed to the New York Times that “negotiations are underway with an Oscar-winning actress for the tonally tricky title role.”
Hmmmm….which mystery actress could pull off the roll? If Schumer’s initial involvement tells us anything, it’s that this Barbie movie will be a little different from Barbie in The Pink Shoes. Variety reports that Barbie will “be in the vein of Splash, Enchanted and Big,” with Barbie getting kicked out of Barbie land for not being Barbie perfect enough. Which maybe sounds a little like the plot of Life Size? Either way, so long as this Barbie is funny, empowering and a little badass we’re on board.
