Kim Kardashian Says Paris Robbery Was ‘So Meant to Happen to Me’

"Things happen in your life to teach you things."

Ever since her return to social media post-Paris robbery, it’s clear that 2017 Kim Kardashian is completely different than 2016 Kim Kardashian. Rather than posting high-res photos of herself in designer clothing and ornate jewellery, the 36-year-old reality TV star now opts for a more *vintage* aesthetic, sharing grainy, less-flashy photos, mainly of her family.

Kardashian has also maintained a relatively low-profile, opting to recount the traumatic Paris heist on an episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, rather than via a television or magazine interview. However, the mother of two did make the recent decision to appear on The Ellen Degeneres Show, marking her first interview since the incident, which left her tied up, bound and held at gunpoint.

During the interview, which airs April 27, Kim explains to Ellen that she’s a changed woman.

“I feel like that was so meant to happen to me; I’m such a different person,” she says while fighting back tears. “Things happen in your life to teach you things.”

Tomorrow, @KimKardashian is here and she’s honest about absolutely everything.

“It was probably no secret, and you see it on the show—I was being flashy and I was definitely materialistic before,” she continued. “Not that there’s anything bad with having things and working hard to get those things…but I’m so happy that my kids get this me, and that this is who I’m raising my kids [as]. ‘Cause I just don’t care about that stuff anymore. I really don’t.”

And while Kim points out she understands the excitement behind showing off materialistic items, such as an engagement ring or a new car, she now feels it’s “not worth it,” especially when she learned the robbers had been following her for two years, listening to interviews of her “getting excited” over new pieces of jewellery.

“I don’t care to show off the way that I used to,” she explains. “Even though there’s nothing wrong, truly—it’s OK if you’re proud of that and you work so hard and you get something—it’s just not who I am anymore.”

But is flashy Kim gone for good? Sort of.

“It’s not to say that I’ll never wear jewellery again or anything like that, [but] I truly don’t know if I’d ever feel comfortable. I don’t know if I’d ever wear real jewellery again,” she says. “Just…my whole life as changed as far as how I travel and security…. Now, I have several, just for me to be able to sleep at night.”

Recounting the robbery, Kim tells Degeneres being held at gunpoint is a “feeling you can’t even explain.”

“Automatically your stomach drops…like I knew that was it for me,” she recalls.

“You thought you were going to die,” Ellen interjects.

“One hundred per cent,” Kim responds. “I said a prayer, I’m like I know I’m going to heaven, I hope my kids are OK, my husband…It does happen really fast.”

She continues, “It was a good seven or eight minutes of torture, but when I look back and I analyze it…they weren’t really aggressive, it could have been way worse, so I don’t want to sound like I’m not grateful. I’m out, I’m home, I’m safe. I’m such a better person. Let’s move on.”
