Our two favourite worlds collided last night in New York: Kate Middleton and Beyoncé. United as one. The excitement is still palpable.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge continued their three-day trip to New York City yesterday, with a jam-packed day of activities. After Kate’s visit to Harlem’s Northside Center for Child Development, and Prince William’s quick jaunt to Washington D.C. to meet with President Obama (#casual), the two met up with Chelsea and Hillary Clinton at a reception to help promote wildlife conservation held at the British General’s Residence. It’s reported that the Cambridges and Clintons bonded over babies, with Chelsea having given birth to her daughter Charlotte earlier this year and Kate’s second pregnancy well underway.

After the baby bonding sesh, the Duke and Duchess were off to meet more power players, as they set off for their first NBA game (Brooklyn Nets vs. Cleveland Cavaliers) at Brooklyn’s Barclay Center. After posing for photos with 7’2″ NBA legend and United for Wildlife spokesperson Dikembe Mutombo, the couple took their courtside seats with boxed popcorn.

Barclay Center is Bey and Jay territory, which works out perfectly for those, like us, who’ve previously dreamt up this kind of meet-cute. And so after the third period, Beyoncé (in, ahem, a top by Canadian-born designer Tanya Taylor) and Jay-Z walked over to introduce themselves. We imagine the conversation spanned the likes of parenthood, world domination and the prospect of using your foot as a phone.

After the game, Kate and Will received specially-made jerseys from NBA star LeBron James, who, unwittingly defying Royal code, put his arm around the Duchess as the three posed for pictures. We doubt she minded. Who could?

As for the all important roundup of what Kate wore, the Duchess sported a metallic tweed Tory Burch coat overtop her J Brand skinny jeans, both paired with her Jimmy Choo Power pumps. For anyone who knows the method behind her getups, we can assume that the choice to wear an American designer was intentional, as Kate’s designer picks often have some connection to her locale.

As the Duke and Duchess close out their trip to New York City with a star-studded gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, we’ll be back to report.
