Giuliana Rancic Mothers Day Interview

In anticipation of Mother’s Day this Sunday, we had the chance to talk with TV personality, fashion designer and new mother Giuliana Rancic. In midst of her busy schedule (co-hosting Fashion Police and E! News are just two of her weekly gigs) Rancic was happy to share tips on balancing time between her hectic career and her family (including her 8-month-old son Duke) while also offering up some always helpful style advice.

Separate work life from home life. Finding it hard at first to balance motherhood with her career, Rancic realized she was not giving her full attention to either: “What I do now is that when I’m at work, I’m 100 per cent focused on work. I return all my emails. I don’t just sit there and surf on the internet like before. And when I’m at home, I would focus 100 per cent on Duke and put the phone away… that way I would feel a little more of a balance.”

Un-plug for Mother’s Day. Instead of getting pampered at the spa, Rancic plans to have a carefree Mother’s Day where she can just spend the whole day with Duke with no work on her mind. “In the morning, I’m going to put an auto response on my phone and email with the message saying, ‘It’s Mother Day. I’ll get back to you tomorrow. Spending the day with Duke and Bill.’”

Go bold and go feminine with your style. Giuliana Rancic is a fan of wearing fun bold prints this season, such as the ikat print, which she included in pieces in her HSN collection. She also thinks the feminine look is making a comeback: “We’ve been doing the men’s look for quite a while with the strong silhouettes, but I think we’re going to go back to the more feminine look for spring and summer.”

Dress chic yet comfortable. When we spoke with her, Rancic was on her way to a shoot for a reality show, but her chic style is also something she’d wear when out with her son: “I’m currently wearing J Brand leather skinny jeans with zippers on the bottom (greatest leather!), an Express faux-leather jacket (reasonably priced), a t-shirt from my collection, Cole Haan old-schooled penny loafers I got last year. Oh… and black Celine sunglasses.”

Embrace change. Anne Hathaway’s new blonde hair caught Rancic’s eye at last Monday’s Met Gala—she loves seeing celebrities change their look up and experiment with fashion, hair and makeup. “Changing your look is like reinventing your look. [Fashion] is supposed to be fun.”
