Calvin Harris and Katy Perry are Collaborating, so Cue the ‘Bad Blood’ Jokes

Very important celebrity news, everyone: Katy Perry and Calvin Harris are collaborating on a song that will be featured on the producer’s newest album, Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1.

ALBUM COMING JUNE 30

Why is this such a big deal, you may ask? Well, unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll know that Perry has a long-standing feud with Taylor Swift, who also happens to be Harris’s ex. (And that relationship did not end well, to say the least.)

Here’s how Tay’s fans feel about it all:

But let’s backtrack and review how this rumoured drama all went down, shall we? Basically it started in 2014, when Taylor told Rolling Stone that her song “Bad Blood” was about another female artist. She declined to name names but did say that the person “did something so horrible” and “tried to sabotage an entire arena tour.” Given that Perry had hired several dancers for her Prismatic World Tour who had previously danced with Swift, fans were quick to point the finger at Katy. Oh, and let’s not forget the two women have also both dated John Mayer….

Then, a day after the Rolling Stone article came out, Katy cryptically tweeted, “Watch out for the Regina George in sheep’s clothing…,” which many people assumed was about Swifty.

And if that doesn’t convince you the two songstresses dislike each other, consider Katy’s interjection during Swift and Nicki Minaj’s Twitter spat in 2015:

Oh, and the fact that Katy Perry released a perfume called “Mad Love,” which are exact lyrics from “Bad Blood.”

Overwhelmed yet? Well, there’s more.

In July 2016, soon after TayTay and Calvin’s breakup, things got ugly when word got out that Swift was actually the one who wrote Harris’s hit song “This Is What You Came For” under the pseudonym Nils Sjoberg. Harris, whose real name is Adam Wiles, had previously told Ryan Seacrest that he and Swift had never spoken about a music collaboration, adding “I can’t see it happening, though,” after “This Is What You Came For” had been released. According to E! News, Swift was “hurt” by those words, which is what led her team to confirm her songwriting credit on the track.

However, Calvin believed the reveal made him look bad, causing him to go on an epic Twitter rant against his ex-girlfriend. One key (since-deleted) tweet? “I know you’re off tour and you need someone new to try and bury like Katy ETC but I’m not that guy, sorry. I won’t allow it.”

Then(!!!), Katy responded with one simple GIF:

Flash forward to May 2017 and the announcement of a Katy Perry/Calvin Harris song, which comes just a week after Katy telling Entertainment Weekly that there would be no retaliating diss track to Swift’s 1989 hit on her new album.

“Well that’s not my question to answer—if it’s about me,” the “Bon Appétit” songstress told EW of “Bad Blood.” “I think [my new album is] a very empowered record. There is no one thing that’s calling out any one person.”

She added, “One thing to note is: You can’t mistake kindness for weakness and don’t come for me. Anyone. Anyone. Anyone. Anyone… But, let me say this: Everything has a reaction or a consequence so don’t forget about that, okay, honey.”

We’re guessing that “consequence” is coming in the form of a new summer hit with Harris.

As for Taylor? Well, she’s been laying low and off-the-grid for the past few months, supposedly working on her next album.

So fasten your seat belts, everyone, because it looks like it’ll be a drama-filled rest of 2017 with this never-ending feud still going strong.
