A night at the AGO

Today, we've got a guest blogger: FASHION’s editor-in-chief, Ceri Marsh
On Tuesday night, Toronto’s fashion and art crowd were like kids let loose in a toy store at the new AGO. We were greeted by white clad “angels” handing out small mirrors we’d need later to participate in Terence Koh’s performance piece. We were then whisked upstairs to the Baillie Court reception space. So beautiful! Guests entered a fairy tale forest, with origami cranes and candles fluttering in branches placed on every table.

The holidays will be upon us faster than you can say Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen (less than five weeks to go, loves!), and what better way to kick off the party season with some champers and scrumptious nibbles at a cocktail party for the launch John de Jong’s (jdj-jewellery.com) latest jewellery collection. To marvel at some of the most exquisite diamonds and pearls we’ve ever laid eyes on, this fashionable girl just had to bring some stylish friends to the über-discreet JdJ showroom, which de Jong opened at Bay and Bloor in 1996. After a facelift that rang in at over $270 million dollars, the new Art Gallery of Ontario (317 Dundas St., 416-979-6660, ago.net) is finally open to the public. The Frank Gehry–fronted project, which began three years ago, drew a major media crowd yesterday, the day before the AGO would be open to the public for the first time in over a year. And it was well worth the wait.

When the re-configured team behind the once-a-year Fashion Cares soiree decided to move the event from May to November, we were a little surprised. It all made sense however when the theme of the evening was revealed and Fashion sCares was born.
