Sex and our city

Sex and our city

Posted on May 30, 2008

By now, most of the female gender is in a tizzy over the hautely-anticipated Sex and the City: The Movie. By some higher power, this fashionable girl was invited to the Canadian premiere and after party in Toronto. After attending a beauty press launch, it was off to the Scotiabank Theatre at Richmond and John to join the throngs of sexy, young Torontonians dressed in their SATC best. Seriously, one girl was even wearing heels, a bustier and a not-so-little hat à la Carrie Bradshaw—made even more hilarious when she was later spotted carrying gummy candies and a greasy bag of popcorn!

With tight security, metal detectors et al, my fashionable friend and I showed up early and took our seats a good half an hour before the start time. Of course the showing was fashionably late—we were waiting for the one and only Kim Cattrall to introduce the flick. Samantha Jones’ alter ego looked haute in a pale silk creation and with her very out-of-character soft voice, thanked us for being there. Then, giving us a taste of her character’s sexiness, declared she couldn’t wait for the after party.

Without giving away any details, this fashionable girl was in heaven, drooling over the gorgeous gowns, New York City landscape and the togetherness of the four female leads, not to mention the adorable and realistic love between the ladies and their men. Definitely going to have to get the DVD when it comes out.

In Fashionable Life style, we hopped in a cab and made our way to the Toronto School of Circus Arts on Wellington for Skyy Vodka's Sex and the City cocktails.  We made our entrance down the fabulously long pink carpet, outfitted with faux Swarovski crystals, natch, and the party was already in full swing. With the male servers in pink tutus, the girls in pink wigs, and a massive Empire State Building ice sculpture, the space was fully decked out in NYC. Model Stacey MacKenzie was inside as a correspondent for eTalk. Also spotted were designer Jeremy Laing, Degrassi girl Lauren Collins, comedian Russell Peters, Roots PR man Raymond Perkins, actor Paul Gross, writer Rebecca Eckler, and hockey boys Matt Stajan and Mike Cammalleri.

After mingling and noshing for a bit (our popcorn dinner just wasn’t enough), and discovering I was more a Samantha, at least when it came to the cocktails, it was time to call it a night. And begin planning my next trip to NYC!
