Try this monochromatic holiday makeup look when you can’t stand to do another red lip

Holiday makeup is always a blast to play around with, but after a while, the trends can be a little redundant. Glossy red lips and some black liquid liner? Pretty, but done. Shimmering smoky eyes and a nude lip? Sexy, but meh. When New Year’s Eve comes around, we all want to perfectly combine elements of fun, drama and festivity without looking or feeling too over the top.

And so I present to you: The monochromatic cranberry Look. The deep ruby tones feel so right for the season, conjuring up vibes of rich red velvet and mulled wine. In order to keep the look from going too full-on, I chose to run with different textures so the makeup didn’t overpower my face. On eyes, a softly shimmering burgundy shadow is used and diffused with a champagne shade, whereas the lips are done up in a matte formula for drama that will stand up equally to turkey dinner or a dalliance under the mistletoe.

Follow along with the gif tutorial before your next big holiday party and prepare to stand out – for all the right reasons.

Use a flat shadow brush to apply the burgundy shade from Charlotte Tilbury’s Luxury Palette in “Dolce Vita” all over the lid.

Use a longer-bristled blending brush to apply the champagne highlight shade from the same palette along the crease to soften any harsh lines and in the center of the lid to brighten.

Use a dampened angled liner brush to apply the deep brown shade from the palette along the lash line for added definition, and apply mascara to complete the eye look.

Apply a medium-toned lip liner along the lip line and sketched along the lips to set a lasting base for your lipstick that will keep the colour from bleeding.

Now’s the time for the finishing touch – I used M.A.C Matte Lipstick in “Diva.” Apply one coat before blotting and then reapply for a perfect finish that will last through dinner and drinks.

Work the party in all your film noir-esque glory.
