The Beauty Products We’re Loving This Month

Iles Formula Haute Performance Shampoo
LH: I received a one-use sample of Iles Formula Haute Performance Shampoo ($43) at Fred Segal in LA last year and loved it so much I bought a full size bottle back home. What I was so impressed by was that like many shampoos out there these days, it’s sulfate free BUT doesn’t behave like it substituted just another harsh detergent, making your hair feeling stripped and in dire need of conditioner to work through all the knots. This one still has a nice lather but also leaves my hair totally detangled. I definitely plan on buying it again. It also gets bonus points for being a brand created by a female hairdresser—a rarity in this industry—Wendy Iles.
Charlotte Tilbury Instant Look in a Palette in Beauty Glow
SM: I was surprised by how much I loved Charlotte Tilbury’s new Palette ($85). Her brand makes some of my all-time favourite makeup products (Legendary Lashes mascara, Wonderglow Foundation) but I normally don’t wear the following things: bronzer, eyeshadow and blush. And considering that those make up like 90 per cent of the palette, I initially brushed it off. But the numbered, labelled system intrigued the ultra-organized freak in me, so I gave it a whirl. And I’m happy to report that a) the the shades are universally gorgeous, b) I now understand how to use blush and c) my purse is so much lighter because everything I need is in this handy palette.
Redken Fabricate 03 Heat-Active Texturizer
MC: I have a love/hate relationship with my flat iron. Yes, it’s great for straightening out some random kinks (the dreaded flip out is a big no-no for we shorter-haired women), but it leaves my hair, well, super straight and smooth. For most, this may seem ideal, but for someone with fine, thin hair who loves the textured, messy look, this can be problematic (#AsianGirlHairProbs). But I’ve found one product that allows me to style my hair while adding texture: Redken’s Fabricate Heat-Active Texturizer ($25). Not only does it add some grit to my fine strands, but it’s also great for undoing any styling mistakes. Just a quick mist all over my hair followed a run through with my flat iron, and voila! Straight, yet perfectly mussed up hair.
