We all have a makeup look that we love on others, but don’t have the courage to try on ourselves. But summer is the time for experimentation. Maybe you’ve been loving Rihanna’s goth-inspired lip colours, or Gigi Hadid’s golden glow. Whatever it may be, now is the time to go for it! We asked our Beauty Panel to show us how to rock a bold new look with confidence.

Challenge 93: Show us a makeup look that you love but haven’t tried out yet. See the answers now! »

I’ve always been fascinated with the idea of long, luscious bottom lashes. That iconic Twiggy look is so delicate and doll-like. It’s something I’ve never tried on myself and I was super excited to give this trend a go!

To create this look I used false under lashes (the very short, stubby ones). I prepped them as usual, trimming them to size and placing glue just along the top edge. With these, instead of placing them normal side up, you actually flip them upside down so they mimic the natural direction of your lower lashes. With top falsies, I usually give clients the tip to tilt your head back so your eyes lower slightly and it becomes easier to place. With the lower lashes it is the opposite. You want to tilt your head forward so you can have more room to tuck the falsies under your bottom lashes. For the rest of the eyes, I have only a skimming of highlighting powder on my lids and a regular coat of black mascara on my top lashes. I rimmed my bottom waterline with a creamy white eyeliner which when combined with the bottom falsies really helps to open the eyes and appear doe-like.

In this photo I went ahead and tried a second trend that I’ve always loved but have never done before. There are many ways to do ombre lips, but this one in particular makes me think of my childhood, enjoying a cherry popsicle on a hot summers day. I started by applying a bit of concealer on my lips, and then lining and filling in with a nude lip liner. Next, I took a bright hot pink shade mixed with a lilac tone together on a lip brush and applied it just on the inner edge of my top and bottom lip. Once you give your lips a little smudge together the colour will naturally blend outwards and give you a beautiful ombre effect. Maintaining this look may be a bit tricky, I feel like the colour might spread pretty quickly over your entire lips. An alternative would be to use a bright lip stain on bare lips in the same fashion; just on the inner edge of your lips. With a stain this look may last a lot longer!

Well, spring is in the air and we must freshen up our makeup in order to get ready. I am prepping my makeup by investing in some very fun colours that will make a statement. I wear glasses, so this summer I decided I won’t play up my eyes, but I can certainly play on my cheeks and lips. You will want to keep your face fresh with bright colours. Summer is all about fun. Have your lips and cheeks speak for you.
